The Christmas Singing

Being that it's nearing the Christmas season, I was wanting to read a Christmas book so I chose to review "The Christmas Singing" by Cindy Woodsmall. This book really has nothing to do with Christmas though and is at best another Amish romance. The main character Mattie is an Amish cake decorator/baker that had her heart broken by her childhood love Gideon. When tragedy strikes for her she is forced to move back with her parents in Pennsylvania and see Gideon almost daily. She doesn't know the real reason he broke off their engagement so she is angry with him. Without giving away the ending, I will say that this is a typical Amish romance, and they all end the same. I wouldn't recommend this book unless you are in the mood for yet another Amish fiction book.
I recieved this book for free from Waterbrook Multnomah in exchange for my honest review.

Departures: The Rediscovered stories by Robin Jones Gunn.
I was actually really looking forward to reading this book so I was excited to recieve it. I had read the entire Christy Miller series about 5 years ago and really enjoyed them. Though I am a bit older now,  I still enjoyed this book. It is actually 2 short stories in one. The first is about Christy Miller and her return home to Wisconsin after living in California for several years. Mostly, it is about Christy meeting up with and old grade school crush. It is quite cheesy in several parts but would be perfectly appropriate for a younger audience. In the second mini book, the main character is Sierra Jensen. She is on a trip with her friends and mostly the short story is about teenage girls flirting and chasing guys. I didn't really like this book as much as the first one but all in all it wasn't too bad. It would definitely be great for one who has read the Christy Miller series and Sierra Jensen series by Robin Jones Gunn and enjoyed them. I would recommend this book.
